The City of St. Thomas is helping recognize the local foster parents who open their homes and hearts to children in the community.
A flag-raising ceremony took place at City Hall Monday morning to kick off Foster Parent Appreciation Week, in partnership with Family & Children’s Services St. Thomas and Elgin.
The week recognizes the people who provide children with stability, care and support, often during challenging periods in their lives.
The agency is also encouraging more people to consider becoming foster parents, noting that local homes can help children remain close to the people, schools and communities they know. Singles, couples, retirees, renters and families with children of their own are all welcome to explore fostering, regardless of their background or family situation.
Anyone interested can take part in a virtual information session on Tuesday, October 27, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The agency says there is no pressure or commitment involved, just an opportunity to learn more about how one home can make a difference.
Registration is available at caselgin.on.ca.
