Residents are being reminded to lock their vehicles and remove valuables as St. Thomas police work to combat a sharp increase in vehicle entries across the city.
Police have responded to 154 reported vehicle entries so far in 2026, more than double the approximately 73 incidents reported throughout 2025.
In response, General Patrol, the Street Crime Unit and the Property Crime Unit worked together to investigate these incidents and identify suspects.
According to police, General Patrol investigated 99 vehicle entries, resulting in 59 criminal charges. The Street Crime and Property Crime Units investigated another 20 incidents, leading to 15 additional criminal charges.
Police say the number of reported incidents has also dropped in recent weeks. After 44 vehicle entries were reported in September, just five had been reported as of October 23rd.
The St. Thomas Police Service says community cooperation remains important in preventing property crime and encourages residents to report suspicious activity.
