A safety and enforcement initiative targeting e-bike and e-scooter use in St. Thomas has resulted in 16 charges and seven warnings.
The St. Thomas Police Service launched the initiative in September in response to community concerns about unsafe operation and violations of provincial and municipal rules.
Of the 16 charges issued, five were for failing to wear a helmet, eight involved other e-bike-related infractions, and three were for municipal by-law violations.
Police say the initiative was intended to reinforce the responsibility riders have to operate safely and consider the well-being of pedestrians and other road users.
The service is reminding riders to wear required helmets, make sure their vehicles are properly equipped, and only operate them where permitted.
Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to review the rules with young riders before they head out.
