A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for St. Thomas and Elgin County. Environment Canada says that severe thunderstorms may develop this afternoon (August 6) where the main threats are heavy rain and strong wind gusts. Hail is also possible in this system.
Strong wind gusts have the ability to toss around loose objects, damage any weak buildings and break tree branches. Heavy rain may also cause flash flooding and pooling on area roads so exercise caution should a thunderstorm arise this afternoon.
The chance of showers and the risk of a thunderstorm will continue into this evening as well.
