The City of St. Thomas is receiving $1,845,422 for priority transit infrastructure projects. Minister Jeff Yurek made the funding announcement on Thursday afternoon (August 8) outside of City Hall.
The funding will go towards the purchase of 10 conventional transit replacement buses, 4 conventional transit expansion buses and 40 signalized intersections that will make transit a priority.
Yurek says that improving the transit in St. Thomas will benefit the residents.
Yurek says that improving St. Thomas’ transit system is the first step towards an inter-city transit system in Elgin County and London.
The signalized intersections will recognize approaching buses and allow them to get through which will reduce the idle time at red lights.
