St. Thomas City Council has taken the final step in permitting a 4 storey apartment building at 59 Metcalfe Street. Council passed the necessary zoning by-law amendment for the redevelopment at the end of Monday night’s (August 12) City Council meeting.
The amendment will now allow the applicant to demolish the two houses on the property and build the apartment building with 15 total units in its place. This is a story that myFM has been following since the original application was submitted in July of 2018.
The applicant is planning for the rent to be between $1,000 – $1,100 per month. The proposal has been met with opposition from area residents at the two public meetings. Councillor Lori Baldwin-Sands, Jeff Kohler and Steve Peters voted against the by-law in a recorded vote.
