The Elgin County OPP are encouraging parents to take some time before school starts to talk with their children about social media safety. The OPP deals with a lot of social media related incidents in the schools, including having open access and usernames.
The OPP encourages going over what websites and apps your child has access to and educating them about how to use them safely.
Media Relations Constable and School Resource Officer Adam Crewdson says that talking with your children is important because once they are involved the damage usually is already done.
Crewdson says that if you’re unsure of what you should be looking for and going over with your child, there are a number of great online resources that parents can reference.
