A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for St. Thomas and Elgin County this afternoon. Environment Canada says that the main threat associated with this system of storms are wind gusts of up to 100 km/hr and heavy rainfall. The weather agency says that these storms also have the potential to produce tornadoes.
The risk of a storm will remain in place until around midnight, as after that the system is expect to lighten.
