St. Thomas native Steve Barber has passed away after a 16 year battle with ALS. Steve’s wife Lindsay announced online that Steve passed away on Monday (September 16) surrounded by friends and family. Barber was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 24, but did not let that slow him down as she says he defied all medial odds and became a source of inspiration to anyone who knew him or heard his story.
Barber is being remembered for always living life on his own terms, sense of humor and his ability to bring people together. Barber also is remembered for always cherishing people and dogs.
Under Barber’s leadership, his “Believe Army” raised close to $1 million to combat ALS. Barber’s legacy will be one of hope, courage and community.
Barber is survived by his wife Lindsay (Disbrowe), parents Bob and Linda (Wraight) Barber, sister Meg (Barber) McTaggart, her husband Matt McTaggart and nieces and nephews Dallas, Lily, Dexter, Jax, Miller and Olivia.
Barber was 40 years old.
Arrangement details are not yet available.
