A portion of the 402 near St. Thomas will have the speed limit increased to 110 km/hr beginning Thursday (September 26) as part of a pilot project. The project announced earlier this year will see the 402 from London to Sarnia have the speed limit increased.
The other two highway sections that will serve as pilots are the QEW from Hamilton to St. Catharines and the 417 from Ottawa to the Ontario -Quebec boarder.
The pilot areas will have increased signage to notify all drivers of the change in speed limit. Street racing penalties will continue to be enforced at 150 km/hr.
Online consultations on the pilots will also now begin. The government says that the public’s feedback will be factored into their final decision making process. The online survey is available until November 23rd.
