A 32 year old St. Thomas man has been charged after he was caught setting a fire behind a local homeless drop in centre. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Monday (Sept 23) morning when the St. Thomas Fire Department were called to a homeless drop in centre on Talbot Street with reports of a fire behind the building.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames that were coming from a picnic table that had been lit behind the facility. The St. Thomas Police reviewed security footage from nearby buildings and discovered that a male had been recorded setting the fire.
Police were able to quickly identify the male and found him on Talbot Street yesterday afternoon around 1 p.m. The 32 year old was taken into custody where he was charged with Arson. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
