The Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Council of Trustees’ Association and the Provincial Government will be stopping public communication on Friday afternoon (October 4). CUPE says in a statement that both sides have agreed that there will be no comment on either the negotiation process or what is being discussed as they continue bargaining.
CUPE has given legal notice that the work-to-rule will be escalated to a full strike beginning on Monday (October 7) if a deal is not reached by then.
Both the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District School Board has announced that all in-school elementary, high school, adult, alternative and continuing education programs will be canceled beginning Monday if a deal is not reached.
All non-CUPE staff are to go to school or workplace as usual on Monday.
CUPE represents about 55,000 education workers including custodians, maintenance, IT, early childhood educators, educational assistants and clerical staff across Ontario.
