The St. Thomas Fire Department will be holding an Open House on Wednesday (Oct 9) from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The open house will be taking place at both fire stations in St. Thomas in honour of Fire Prevention Week. Both stations will be holding tours of the fire halls, fire trucks, and dispatch centers. The firefighters will also be putting on displays, as well as providing fire prevention education, home escape planning, and doing some giveaways.
Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun says the open house will allow children the opportunity to get used to firefighters if an emergency were to happen.
Destun says that planning and practicing your fire escape is also essential so that children as well as adults know what should happen in the case of a fire.
Fire Prevention Week will be taking place from October 6th to 12th. The goal of fire prevention week is to remember and practice the small but important actions people can take to keep themselves and those around them safe if a fire were to happen.
