Police across the country will be working together to monitor roads this Thanksgiving long weekend during the annual “Operation Impact” campaign. The St. Thomas Police Service and the Elgin County OPP will be out on area roads making sure everyone is doing their part in keeping roadways safe while people travel to see family this weekend. Operation Impact is a national campaign that is meant to help raise awareness and enforce traffic laws in an effort to save lives on Canadian roads.
The STPS, Elgin County OPP, and officers across Canada will be targeting the “big four”, which includes Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, Aggressive Driving and Seat Belts. Officers are urging drivers to stay safe by buckling up, putting down the phone, being patient and being kind to each other on the roads.
The OPP are also reminding that with increased traveling on highways this weekend, to leave enough time to get where you need to go without speeding as half of this year’s OPP-investigated collision fatalities have occurred on provincial highways.
