The Aylmer Police are asking the public to be more cautious as false 911 calls have reached an all time high. The Aylmer Police have responded to 150 false 911 calls this year alone, which far exceeds last years high of 105. These calls continue to tie up officers as each 911 response is classified as a high priority, meaning each call requires 2 officers to response for safety purposes who are then taken away from other priority calls while responding to an accidental dial.
The Aylmer Police have experienced many false calls due to children playing with phones, adults checking to see if the 911 feature on their phone is working and pocket dials. Police are asking the public to take steps to avoid false 911 calls by using your cellphone’s key lock to help prevent accidental calls, teaching your children to use 9-1-1 properly and remind them it is not a toy as well as refraining from calling 911 to test if it’s working.
These false calls have cost the service approximately $6776.00 as it takes roughly one hour of officer time to respond and investigate these calls.
