With Summer officially in the books, The St. Thomas Police Service are looking back on the busy past 5 months they have had in the City. Officers were kept busy between April 1st and September 1st as they responded to 10,825 incidents in St. Thomas. Of those incidents, 1,060 arrests were made as a result and 1,121 Criminal Code Charges were laid. Police also laid 35 drug related charges throughout the summer months.
Incidents seem to be on the rise as the St. Thomas police are on pace hit 20,000 incidents this calendar year which is a 24% increase from 2018. The General Patrol Unit who has been kept busy this year, has also had help from the Street Crimes Unit who have been working nights and weekends in an effort decrease criminal activity throughout the city by identifying suspects and making arrests.
The Police also have some positive news to report as thanks to their collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association they have responded to 993 mental health related incidents so far this year, which puts the department down approximately 200 calls from 2018.
