The police’s investigation into a collision that caused a major intersection in the City to be closed for a portion on Tuesday morning continues and one woman is facing charges. The collision at First Ave and Wellington Street happened around 9:30 a.m. when police say an SUV with stolen licence plates was speeding southbound on First Ave.
The police allege the 30 year old London woman driver of the SUV then veered into the oncoming lane in an attempt to pass a vehicle that was stopped at the red light at Wellington Street. The woman then lost control of the vehicle when going through the intersection, struck a pole and hit a tree. The vehicle rolled over and slid to an eventual stop.
No injuries were caused from this collision. The driver was transported to hospital but was later released. Once in hospital the woman was arrested immediately when she got to the hospital and taken to the police station.
She has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended, using an unauthorized license plate, and failing to stop for a red light. The police’s investigation into this incident is continuing.
