The St. Thomas Police Service are investigating following an attempted arson that took place downtown. Officers who were on patrol this morning around 4 a.m. were walking on the northside of Talbot Street near Ross checking businesses when they noticed the arson attempt.
Police discovered that someone had tied a blanket to the door handle of a building and placed a small pile of papers at the based of the door and lit them on fire. When officers found the blanket it was melted but not on fire and the papers were reported to still be smoldering. The officers extinguished the pile of papers and report that no damage was done to the glass door.
The STPS are currently investigating the incident and are asking anyone who may have any information in relation to it, to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
