The Catfish Creek Conservation Authority has issued a watershed conditions statement for the Lake Erie shoreline that will remain in effect until Saturday. The conservation authority says we can expect winds to increase to 15 knots near noon, diminishing to northeast 10 this evening then increasing to southwest 15 knots Thursday morning. Wind will continue to increase to the west 25 knots Thursday afternoon and to the west 35 knots Thursday evening.
The low pressure system that is expected for Southern Ontario could bring upwards of 30 to 50 mm of rain, with the heaviest rain occurring Thursday afternoon.
The combination of rain and wind could see waves build to 2 meters tall by Thursday evening. Municipal flood coordinators along the shoreline are asked to monitor the road conditions in the area. Residents are also asked to closely watch local conditions and take appropriate responsible action, and are urged to use caution and stay away from Lake Erie shoreline areas experiencing strong wave action and elevated water levels.
