A local 8 year old boy is asking for donations for the homeless instead of presents for his upcoming 9th birthday. Izaiah Vedd asked his parents about why there were people sleeping in tents as they passed them on Wellington Street on a recent drive home.
Father Brad Hansen and his wife explained to Izaiah and their other children that the people in the tents were homeless and that’s when Izaiah asked if he could donate items to them instead of presents for his November 10th birthday.
Hansen says that he was very taken back by his son’s selfless act.
Hansen says that Izaiah’s initial goal of donating 9 health product bags for his 9th birthday to Inn Out of the Cold has already grown to over 50 bags and counting and $250 in food donations.
Izaiah’s 11 year old sister Faith is helping out by starting an online auction with items that local businesses have donated to the cause which has already reached over $300.
Izaiah will be taking all of the bags and other donations to Inn Out of the Cold next week.
