A recent grant / donation from Firehouse Subs will allow the St. Thomas Fire Department to train the community on how to use a fire extinguisher properly. The $20,905 in funding through the program will bring a Bullex Fire Extinguisher Training System to the department. The system features simulated extinguishers that are weighted the same as a normal extinguisher and discharge using lasers.
Simulated smoke is also emitted to the same size of an actual fire. The flames will only go out if the trainee uses the proper methods taught by the fire fighters.
The system does not leave any residue. The department says that the system can be used to train different groups including students, hospitals, community partners and more.
