A local 9 year-old boy made a large donation to Inn Out of The Cold for his birthday. Izaiah Vedd donated $600 in goods and $2,620 in funds to the homeless shelter on Friday morning (November 15).
Izaiah’s family was joined by Mayor Joe Preston, Minister Jeff Yurek, Police Chief Chris Herridge, Deputy Fire Chief Ray Ormerod and Principal of Mitchell Hepburn Dave Westaway at Inn Out of the Cold for the donation.
As myFM first informed you about last week, Izaiah asked for donations for the homeless instead of presents for his birthday after learning that there were homeless people in the community.
Izaiah’s older sister Faith also helped in the campaign by organizing an online auction and helping her brother go and seek donations from local businesses.
Izaiah says that he wanted to do this to support those who don’t have the things he does.
Izaiah says that he hopes that those who receive the donation feel happy and will enjoy it.
Father Brad Hansen says that he’s very proud of his children.
Principal Dave Westaway says he believes that this initiative says a lot about Izaiah and Faith
Westaway says that next week is kindness week in the Thames Valley District School Board and he says that this donation will springboard the week.
