The City’s new 230 Talbot Street affordable housing unit is expecting to have all of the tenants moved in by the end of January. St. Thomas City Council received a report from staff on Monday night (November 18) with their recommendations for the tenant selection process that was received for information. The building will have a total of 28 apartments above the social services office on the main floor.
14 of the units will be rent-geared-to-income. The rent-geared-to-income units will follow the normal policy for filling vacancies in City-owned units that requires top priority tenants currently living in City-owned housing to be transferred first.
The 8 investment in affordable housing unit’s rent will be $555 including utilities. Over 40 applications have been considered by staff but no final decisions have been made at this point.
The 6 average market rent units will be advertised to the public and applications will be accepted until November 30th. The rent of 4 two bedroom units will be $1,006 and 2 one bedroom units will rent for $694 utilities included.
