A special weather statement is in effect for St. Thomas and Elgin County as strong wind gusts are expected to continue into this evening. Southwesterly wind gusts of up to 80 – 90 km/hr are currently occurring from a cold front that’s moving into the area.
The strongest of these wind gusts is expected in openly exposed areas in the county. Winds this strong have the potential to lift loose objects, break tree branches and even cause power outages.
Environment Canada says that these winds are expected to ease this evening as they veer to the west.
