myFM has an update in relation to the road closure at the intersection of First Avenue and Talbot Street this morning.
Around 6 a.m. a collision occurred between a 58 year old St. Thomas woman and a police cruiser. The officer involved in the collision was driving southbound on First Ave approaching Talbot Street on a green light when the woman driving northbound made a left hand turn from First Avenue onto Talbot Street into the path of the oncoming cruiser.
It is reported that the officer made every attempt to avoid the collision, however it did result in the front passenger side of the police cruiser making contact with the passenger door of the woman’s vehicle.
As a result of the collision the woman is being charged with Left turn – Fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.
The woman was handed a $110 fine and three demerit points. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
