A new project that will send local kids with complicated special needs to summer camp was this year’s winner of the Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation’s “100 People Who Care” event. The event at the CASO Station featured 100 people each donate $100 to create a $10,000 donation pool.
Camp presenter Pedro Gavilanez’s presentation was voted on as the winner by all in attendance and was awarded $10,000.
Through the program children with complicated special needs will be able to attend a local summer camp with a trained worker.
Executive Director of the Foundation Terry Carroll says that Gavilanez’s presentation tugged on everyone’s heart strings.
Carroll says that the $10,000 will serve as a kickoff for the program that will need a total of $20,000 to operate. Catfish Creek Conservation Authority was also granted $15,000 through the RBC Future Launch Community Challenge that will go to support their incentive based recycling program for high school students.
