A St. Thomas City Councillor is concerned that this year council did not accept any grant applications yet still award funding. Councillor Joan Rymal voiced her concern in council’s process which saw them award grants to the same 4 organizations as last year, without receiving an application from them or anyone else.
The St. Thomas – Elgin Public Art Centre, the St. Thomas Cemetery, Talbot Teen Centre and the St. Thomas Seniors Centre will be receiving their 2018 amount plus the rate of inflation.
Councillor Rymal says that she’s not sure if what they are doing is sustainable.
Rymal says that if they had an application process like they did last year other organizations may have received funding.
Council will discuss the grant application process at a reference committee meeting in the future.
