Two significant events in the Ontario teachers dispute take place this week.
Beginning today, elementary teachers plan to escalate their work-to-rule campaign. Teachers will not plan any new field trips, collect money for school-based activities except for charity, or distribute memos or letters from schools or school boards.
On Wednesday teachers and education workers represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will stage a day long strike affecting students in 9 school districts across the province. The strikes will not impact any of our local schools, however union members may be holding information pickets in front of schools.
The Federation says if the province would agree to reverse the increase in class sizes, eliminate mandatory e-learning courses and ensure Bill 124 will not impede free collective bargaining, the OSSTF would cancel Wednesday’s job action and enter into private mediation.
