St. Thomas City Staff are calling the recently completed phase 1 of the 230 Talbot Street project a dream build. City Manager Wendell Graves says that the great working relationship and communication between the general contractor and the subcontractors played a role in the building being completed with very few change orders.
The update came as Councillor Gary Clarke was asking if they anticipated their new home for their social services department and 28 affordable housing units running into construction costs similar to what has happened at the St. Thomas Police Station.
Graves says that the working relationship played a factor in the success of the project.
Graves says that the contractor who built the building has invested in their business parkland which speaks to their desire and commitment to projects in the City going forward.
Staff have finished moving into the building and residents of the affordable housing units are expected to be moved in early in the New Year.
