The Ontario Provincial Police are encouraging the public to report minor crimes to them via the internet. With OPP officers sent to more than one million calls last year, they are hoping this will allow them more time to respond to emergency calls.
The OPP says that the online reporting is a secure, simple and convenient tool to report minor crimes that occur throughout Ontario. Minor crimes such as theft or mischief under $5,000, vehicle damage under $5000 as well as driving complaints can all be reported using the online portal. The online reporting system should not be used in the case of any emergency, if the occurrence happened outside of OPP jurisdiction, if anyone was injured or if the occurrence involves a weapon, drugs, or gambling among others.
The service can be used through any device that has internet access such as a mobile device, laptop, tablet or computer. Anyone looking for further information or wishing to report a crime can click here.
