The St. Thomas Fire Department wants to make sure that you’re being fire safe this Christmas season. The department says that over Christmas and New Years they deal with calls relating to unattended cooking, extension cord issues and Christmas trees.
These calls contribute to the department receiving more calls for service from November – February than any other time of the year.
The department is reminding everyone to ensure that your home is fire safe.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Bill Todd says that being fire safe is slightly different in the winter.
Todd says that overall he feels that the City does pretty well at being fire safe but there is always room for improvement. Todd is hoping that this reminder will help prevent an incident this Christmas like the full house fire in the City on Christmas morning last year.
