A 26 year old Woodstock man is among those facing multiple charges after the Elgin County OPP responded to a break and enter in Port Burwell that resulted in the suspects fleeing from police. Officers were called to the area of Victoria Street around 8:30 p.m. on February 5 due to a break and enter at a residence. Police were able to locate the vehicle associated with the incident on Plank Road near Calton Line, where the driver failed to stop for the officers.
An Elgin County OPP officer was able to successfully use a tire deflation device but the vehicle continued on and was last seen heading east towards Norfolk County on Eden Line.
OPP from Norfolk County were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 59 north of Port Rowan. The vehicle once again failed to pull over for police but then came to a stop in a wooded area after losing its rear tire. It was later revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Stratford.
The Canine Unit was dispatched to assist in the apprehension of the suspect(s). The investigation is still ongoing as suspects are still outstanding, however 26 year old Jacob Mcgilveary is facing charges including Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Break and enter, Trespassing at night and Fail to comply with release order.
