All public and catholic schools in Elgin County will be closed next Friday (Feb 21) following the announcement that all 4 major teacher unions will be holding a one-day walkout. This is the first time since 1997 that teachers and educational workers from Ontario’s main education unions will be out of the classrooms on the same day.
That means nearly 200 thousand education workers across 72 school boards will be striking and closing nearly 5000 schools, all in protest of government cuts to education.
This move will leave more than 2 million students out of class across the province unless new agreements are reached between the unions and the Ontario Government.
