Sleepless in our City St. Thomas presented by the United Way is making its return to the Boston Pizza parking lot on February 20th. “Sleepers,” having been raising money and on Thursday they will spend 12 hours in their car overnight to get a taste of what is reality for those who are homeless in a rural community.
The event will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday and will run until 8 a.m. Friday morning with the event kick off taking place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
All money raised from the event will be used to help fight homelessness and poverty in St.Thomas and Elgin County. Confirmed sleepers this year are Police Chief Chris Herridge, Mayor Joe Preston, Robert Furneaux, Sean Dyke, Vicki Asher, myFM’s very own Dave Thomson and many more.
All though the night will be uncomfortable, difficult and cold, it’s only one night. For many in our community sleeping rough, couch-surfing or living in temporary shelters is the norm.
If you would like to share some of the warmth you’ve got to give this winter, by making a donation to a sleeper or the event, you can click here.
