Today is the final day the province will issue the soon-to-be-recalled licence plates which launched last month. The blue on blue plates grew mass criticism directed at the province as videos and photos surfaced proving them being difficult to read at night. myFM reached out to MPP and Minister of Consumer Services Lisa Thompson’s office Tuesday for comment, and were provided with the following statement:
“As an immediate measure, distribution of the current Ontario licence plate will stop as of end of day March 4, 2020. While the current Ontario licence plate does not pose a safety risk, this action will minimize the number of Ontarians who will need replacement plates.”
The government announced last week they’ll be redesigning the initial redesign, and those who require new plates will be given a blue letter on white plate until the second round of new licence plates are made available.
