The Municipalities of West Elgin and Dutton Dunwich have announced that they will be renaming the West Elgin Community Centre after local hockey star Bo Horvat. In a special celebration ceremony that will be taking place on July 11th, the facility will officially be renamed the “Bo Horvat Community Centre”. The Municipalities have chosen to rename the arena to honour Bo’s commitment to the local community, Bo’s Foundation, his support of the Ronald McDonald House and other charities as well as minor hockey.
The Rodney native and current Vancouver Canuck grew up playing for many local teams before making it big including the West Lorne Comets, Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, the London Knights, as well as a brief stint with the St. Thomas Stars.
The renaming celebration will be taking place at Miller Park in West Lorne on July 11th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature family friendly activities, games, entertainment, a meet and greet with Bo, food vendors and the official renaming ceremony.
