The Sleepless in our City fundraising event in St. Thomas exceeded all expectations according to Heather Jackson, Associate Director of Development for United Way Elgin-Middlesex. The event, also held last month in Strathroy-Caradoc, is an effort to raise money in addition to drawing awareness to homelessness and poverty.
Sleepless in our City saw Police Chief Chris Herridge, Mayor Joe Preston, Sean Dyke, Vicki Asher, myFM’s very own Dave Thomson and more participate locally.
Jackson says the amount of money raised was incredible.
Although the night proved uncomfortable, difficult and cold, it is only one night. For many in our community sleeping rough, couch-surfing or living in temporary shelters is the norm. Jackson stressed all money raised remains in the community.
