BREAKING NEWS: Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared a state of emergency.
ALL RESTAURANTS, BARS, CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, DAY CARE CENTRES AND MORE HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO CLOSE IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.
The announcement was made during a press conference this morning with Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance, and Solicitor General Sylvia Jones.
Prohibition of public events over 50 people including parades, events, all indoor recreation facilities, libraries, schools, child care centres, theatres, concert venues and bars and restaurants, unless they provide take out. This is effective immediately until the end of March.
Ford stressed that this is NOT A PROVINCIAL SHUT DOWN.
The vast majority of businesses and essential services will remain open and be available to everyone. Grocery stores, public transit, office buildings and more will continue to operate. Ford says we need to do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Ontario has officially declared a state of emergency. Based on advice of Chief Medical of Health and other health experts. The government says they are taking every step possible to flatten the curve.
No expense will be spared to support Ontarians in need.
