Southwestern Public Health has confirmed that a 4th case of COVID-19 has hit Elgin County. The website that is updated by the health unit daily, says the 4th case in a man in his 70s who is currently listed as being in the hospital. As of 12:22 p.m. Friday (Mar 27) afternoon, where he contracted the virus is still pending.
This is now the 5th confirmed case in the Southwestern Public Health region in 6 days. The first case was announced on March 22nd when a male in his 30s tested positive for COVID-19 after close contact with someone outside the region who has the virus. The male was in self isolation at home but has seen been transported to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital after his case worsened.
As of Friday at 8 a.m., SWPH reports having completed 255 tests, with 148 negative results, 102 pending and 29 probable cases.
