In response to non-essential downtown businesses closing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and owners worrying about the safety of their storefronts, St. Thomas Police are opening a temporary satellite police station.
The facility will open this week in the Railway City Tourism office at Talbot and Moore streets. Police Chief Chris Herridge says this will be in addition to an increase in beat patrols along Talbot Street.
Herridge adds the satellite location will give officers easy and convenient access to technology while maintaining a presence in the downtown core.
As is the case with the main police station, it will not be open to the public to maintain social distancing.
