Following yesterday’s announcement that the Ontario government has ordered the closure of all outdoor recreational amenities, the City of St. Thomas has closed all outdoor sports and play fields until further notice.
This move is in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 as the province extends the state of emergency by another 2 weeks. In addition to the closure of sports and play fields, all beaches, off leash dog parks, picnic areas and more will also be shut down.
Green spaces such as parks, trails and ravines will remain open “for walkthrough access,” however officials warn that individuals must maintain physical distance of at least two meters.
The full list of closures covered under the new action includes…
-Playgrounds
-Sports fields
-Basketball and tennis courts
-Off-leash dog parks
-Beaches
-Skateboard and BMX parks
-Picnic areas
-Outdoor community gardens
-Park shelters
-Outdoor exercise equipment
