Southwestern Public Health’s website has confirmed the biggest jump in COVID-19 cases in Elgin, with 4 new ones announced today (April 1). Among the 4 new cases is a female in her 70s who has passed away as a result of the virus. This news follows yesterday’s announcement of the areas first death as a result of COVID-19.
While many of the details in relation to these new cases are still pending on the website such as cause of transmission for all 4 cases, we do know the people affected include a female in her 40s, a female in her 70s, a male in his 80s and a person in their 80s who is listed as self isolating at home.
This brings the total of confirmed cases in the Southwestern Public Health region that covers Elgin County, Oxford County, and the City of St. Thomas to 15.
As of Wednesday (April 1) at 8 a.m., the public health unit reports having completed 330 tests, with 193 negative results, 124 pending, 1 resolved case and 2 deaths.
