With social distancing measures in effect for the foreseeable future, there seems to be a divide in what people think are acceptable activities to be doing during this pandemic.
This is the case recently with photographers who can’t seem to agree if Front Porch Sessions fall under social distancing guidelines. A front porch session is when a photographer comes to your house and takes photos of you and your family from 6-feet away.
We spoke with local photographer Hayley Sheppard who thinks they are not the best idea. Sheppard says that photographers do not fall under essential services, meaning first and foremost, they are not supposed to be operating as a business right now.
Sheppard says that besides the obvious reasons such as social distancing being about minimizing risk; and the first step in minimizing risk is to stop doing avoidable things, it goes hand in hand with proper photographer etiquette where they do not ever put their clients at risk.
Sheppard adds that these photographers seem to have their hearts in the right place but shouldn’t be putting others at risk.
Sheppard’s recommendations to those who are offering this service as a way to make some extra money during this difficult time is to offer gift certificates instead that can then be used when it is safe to do so.
