In preparing for a potential uptick in patients visiting the emergency department at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility has implemented procedural changes prior to admitting an individual to the department. However, CEO and president Robert Biron stresses the department remains open for those needing medical attention.
Biron says that the hospital does have the ability to flex up their services, including inside their intensive care unit.
Biron adds the hospital has had to revamp how it undertakes day-to-day operations, and planning for the pandemic has impacted all aspects of life at the facility.
