An enthusiastic community of sewers and those with 3-D printer capability has banded together to create items to help frontline and essential workers wear their personal protective equipment more comfortably.
SewStrong St. Thomas Elgin – a partnership between the St. Thomas & District Chamber of Commerce and 94.1 myFM – has patterns for masks, headbands, gowns, scrub caps and mask clips at their website sewstrong.ca. Chamber CEO Paul Jenkins, says the idea is to tap into the volunteer energy already in place in the community.
One of the groups, 3D Printers For PPE – St. Thomas Elgin, has already been producing ear savers for front-line workers. Jenkins says you can visit sewstrong.ca for full details.
Samantha Wakefield, General Manager of 94.1 myFM, says “Your local radio station is proud to partner with you, our unbelievable community, to keep all of us safe. Let us have the back of every single member of our St. Thomas and Elgin County family.”
All items can be dropped off at Ross Street Coin Laundry, 71 Ross Street, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., where they will be laundered and distributed through the Columbus Club to those with the greatest need and then the general public.
