As is the case with hospitals across the country, the St.Thomas Elgin General Hospital has been on high alert to deal with any eventuality related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hospital president and CEO Robert Biron says this has not completely ruled out all surgeries. In fact on average the hospital is still undertaking two or three urgent surgeries per day.
While the hospital would have to await a green light from the province ro return to pre-COVID-19 status with regard to elective surgeries, Biron says his staff are giving serious consideration to when that day comes.
Biron stresses there is still the risk of a second wave as well as a considerable number of outbreaks in long-term facilities that could require the support of hospitals across Ontario.
