St. Thomas and Elgin County is continuing to see a decline in ongoing COVID-19 cases, despite the announcement of a new confirmed cases in the area.
During our last update on Monday (May 4), 7 cases were still active in the community, compared to Wednesdays (May 6) numbers where 5 cases were still active. However, on Thursday Southwestern Public Health confirmed that a new active case has been reported in Malahide.
In total there are now 6 active cases in the area with 3 being in St. Thomas, 2 in Malahide and 1 in Dutton Dunwich.
In the Southwestern Public Health coverage area, 2,904 people have been tested as of Thursday, with 2,593 negative results and 249 pending. A total of 43 cases have now been resolved.
Southwestern Public Health has also added a new statistic to their website, where it shows percentage of tests that are positive.
Dr. Joyce Lock, Medical Officer of Health at SWPH says that they use this data to gather further information.
As of Thursday, out of the 2,655 tests that have been received, only 2.3% of the tests have come back testing positive for COVID-19 in the SWPH region.
