Southwestern Public Health has better news to share today, following yesterday’s unfortunate announcement of a new confirmed COVID-19 case in Malahide. The health unit has released their new numbers and as of Friday, (May 8) St. Thomas and Elgin County have 4 confirmed COVID-19 cases still ongoing, compared to a day ago when there were 6. Of the 4 remaining cases in the area, 2 are in St. Thomas and the other 2 are in Malahide.
In the Southwestern Public Health coverage area, 2,964 people have been tested as of Friday, with 2,627 negative results and 275 pending. A total of 45 cases have now been resolved.
Today, Ontario is reporting 477 new cases of COVID-19, and 63 more deaths. That brings the total number of cases to 19,598, including 1,540 deaths and 13,990 resolved cases.
The total represents an increase of 2.5 per cent over the previous day.
