Calling it an important step in the process of reopening churches across the province, Church of God Pastor Henry Hildebrandt received word Saturday his drive-in services in Aylmer are permitted under COVID-19 restrictions. Premier Doug Ford formally amended the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to provide guidelines and permission for all churches to hold drive-in or parking lot services. London lawyer Lisa Bildy says the amendment was the result of litigation started last week by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms.
Now that the emergency act has been amended, Bildy feels it is highly unlikely police would lay charges based on video evidence gathered on the third week of drive-in services.
Pastor Hildebrandt noted provinces across Canada and countries around the world have endorsed drive-in services as a temporary measure as it allows for an expression of community without violating public health objectives.
