While the coronavirus has ravaged long-term care homes across the province, Valleyview Home in St. Thomas has had no confirmed cases since the pandemic began.
Administrator Michael Carroll says much of the credit has to go to ongoing support from the city and the dedication of staff at the home.
In addition to the dedication of staff, Carroll says the city put in place the resources required to deal with the coronavirus.
In anticipation of the full impact of the coronavirus on long-term care homes, extra staff and summer students were brought in to city-operated home. Carroll says this was one of the reasons no confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported to date at the facility.
Carroll adds the COVID-19 pandemic provides an opportunity for society in general to determine the type and level of care it wants to provide to not only residents of long-term care facilities but also the homeless and other vulnerable populations.
